Location, Location, Location

Citrus County is about 75 miles north of Tampa and 90 miles northwest of Orlando. Our major areas include: Crystal River, Pine Ridge, Beverly Hills, Citrus Hills, Black Diamond Ranch, Homosassa Springs, Inverness, Terra Vista, Sugarmill Woods and Floral City.

Even more, Citrus County is only a short distance from many of Florida’s hottest attractions. Florida’s international airports, Orlando and Tampa, are about 2 hours away. Gainesville Regional Airport is about 80 minutes from the center of Citrus County. As a result, residents enjoy living in a quiet town but still have available travel opportunities close by.

Citrus County Florida: Naturally Exquisite

Citrus County Florida is famous for being home to the endangered West Indian Manatee. Our area has seven rivers, some of which are spring-fed. Consequently, they drain into the Gulf of Mexico. Cool spring water provides a seemingly endless supply of fresh water from the Crystal, Homosassa and Chassahowitzka Rivers. There are literally hundreds of fresh water springs. All of which maintain a year-round fresh water temperature of 72 degrees. Alone, the 30 largest springs, pump 600 million gallons of water daily. As a result of the warmer waters, Manatees make their home here in winter months. Another reason people make the move to Citrus County Florida.

Life on the Nature Coast

The northern and eastern sides of the county are bound by the Withlacoochee River. Citrus County is home to the Withlacoochee State Forest & Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. Additionally, Citrus County has over 52 miles of gulf coast, 106 miles of rivers, and 19,111 acres of lakes. Collectively, over 152,000 acres of Citrus County include wildlife parks and reserves.

Furthermore, according to national sporting publications, Citrus County is one of the top 12 best fishing spots in North America.  Aptly named “The Nature Coast,” this area of Florida is teeming with aquatic wildlife. The crystal clear waters offer trout, redfish, Spanish mackerel, snook, cobia, tarpon and many other species.

Community & Lifestyle

Next, we enter the central ridge of our county, known as the sand hill region. Here, you will find an abundance of long leaf pine and turkey oak. Some of our major communities include Sugarmill Woods, Pine Ridge, Black Diamond Ranch, Citrus Hills, Terra Vista and Citrus Springs. In addition to great water activities, you’ll find many beautiful public and private golf courses here. In conclusion, from the center of the county, you will find great golf in every direction.

A Water Lover’s Paradise

Another great area, along the eastern side of the county, you’ll find the 13 mile Tsala Apopka chain of lakes and the Withlacoochee River. This area offers some of the very best large-mouth bass fishing. Furthermore, you will find the communities of Hernando, Inverness and Floral City. The Withlacoochee State Trail has a 46-mile section of railroad track, now paved, for use by visitors on bicycles or foot. As a result, the even topography and natural surroundings make it extremely popular among cyclists.
